Hello everyone!
Fall Classic 2007 came to a close yesterday with surprises popping up at
seemingly every turn along the way. Some bad, some good, some *really* good.
I won't go into gory details, I'll just say that it looked like everyone had
fun; and that's what it was all about.
We had a total of 219 entries from 65 entrants. As well, we had 65 judges
throughout the day. That is simply a fantastic turnout; an excellent
representation of the best side of homebrewers -- comraderie! I would like
to thank all of them for their amazing gift of time, effort, brain cells,
and liver. :) I would also like to thank the entrants for letting us judge
the beers they like best -- their own -- just to see if anyone else had the
same take on them. Well done!
Especially, I'd like to thank my staff, stewards, and contributors.
Without their help, this competition wouldn't have happened; seriously. In
no particular order, people whose help was crucial were: Jenn McPoland,
Aaron Grier, Oliver Manuel, Chad Hicks, Trevor Millund, Chris Hummert,
Yvette Uber, Mandy Hayes, Brandy Ettinger, and Steven Wohlford.
Special thanks to Christian Ettinger, Ben Love, Rob Widmer, Ike
Manchester, Vasili Gletsos, and Bill Pengelly for Best of Show prize
contributions. Your contributions *made* this competition a competition.
Thank you.
I'd like to thank, yet again, Hopworks Urban Brewing for their tremendous
contribution of time, space, beer, patience, and coolness. It won't soon be
forgotten. We were even lucky enough to have Christian (owner/brewmaster)
and Ben (head brewer) volunteer to judge as well! With the judging break
between the raffle and Best of Show round, to get a chance to
sample Christian and Ben's VERY fine Czech Pils directly from the brite
tank, as well as their their first winter warmer, was a wonderful treat.
Thanks again guys!
Finally, thanks again to all of the business that donated their wares to
our judge raffle. Their generosity is pinnacle and got the judges out in a
BIG way! :)
And now for some results! As far as I know, the following are all first
time Best of Show winners in the Fall Classic. They are:
3rd Place Best of Show
Chris Olsen (Oregon Brew Crew, Portland, OR)
22A - Rauch
2nd Place Best of Show
Robin McFarlane (Plato Republic, Vancouver, WA)
10A - American Pale Ale
...and finally, 1st Place Best of Show goes to...
Bill Schneller (Oregon Brew Crew, Portland, OR)
17D - Straight Lambic
Please help me in congratulating these fine brewers on their top wins!

Once again, thanks to everyone for their help and for coming out to have
fun! I hope to see you all again next year when Aaron Grier takes the reigns
as OBC Competition Chairperson for Fall Classic 2008. Until then...
CHEERS!
