[COHO] Deschutes scrap keg info...

Here's a newsflash for all COHO folks. I've finally completed my (COHO's) discussion with Deschutes Brewing Company on the scrap keg deal. Per Gary Fish (Deschutes president), relayed by Joe Hale (racking department lead), COHO will be given first crack at their soon-to-be-scrap kegs. Here's the facts. Deschutes usually generates a scrap keg load quarterly. That load usually consists of 50L kegs, along with a few 30L kegs. Joe has intentions of creating a "Deschutes Scrap" stamp to identify the kegs as legally sold scrap, not heisted from somewhere. He adds that "the kegs can be pretty beat up," but "should be OK as kettles or mashtuns." The kegs will also have their sanke tap valves removed prior to leaving the brewery, which is just fine if you're taking a blowtorch to the top anyway. I'm also told that we will be paying scrap prices for the load, and I'd imagine be responsible for picking up the kegs. They don't anticipate having a load together until the fourth quarter 2006, currently there's only two kegs sitting that are unusable for production. Joe will contact me when they have a full load ready. This will be offered to any COHO member that's current with their dues, and is willing to fork out a couple of bucks for their kegs. And that's all I know for now.

Also, just curious on the status of the Monarch IIPA, particularly the green colored one. I'd also like to have an update on the crazy hop filter from El Presidente. I probably need to round up some hops for that thing.

The wife and I are down for some baseball and brews.

Later
