[COHO] Harvesting Hops - question for you

Bill: Go to Dave Will's Fresh Hops website - there will be a link to growing
hops . There's a section on how/when to harvest. My experience is that you
can feel the difference. If they are ready they'll feel papery and be more
open. You don't want to wait till there is brown on the tips. The upripe
ones will by green and less dry.You should pick the ripe ones on successive
days. I dried then on window screen material laid across open boxes so the
air gets all around. One or two hot days is plenty. Vacuum pack and freezing
is best. If you can't vacuum pack then squeeze out the air and freeze them.
If you have the "boilable" type of plastic bags use them...if not get the
best zip-locs you can find.
You'll want to wear long-sleeves - brushing against the leaves will cause a
lot of irritation.
P.S. - Carefull on the ladder!! Don't drink and climb a ladder.
