I was putting it off because the documentation seemed deaper than I had time to dive into. I was pleasantly surprised by getting it up and running with almost no effort or time, and everything seems to work great. Also, it has all kinds of nifty features I didn't know about. So, I am appreciating CUPS today. The smily-computer-next-to-the-printer CUPS logo says it all. That's my computer today.
Wow, Im suprised you've stuck with lpr for so long. There is nothing
like buying a new hp printer, plugging it into my *nix box and setting
up in CUPS and having it print in a matter of minutes.
<RANT>On a side note, Canon printer support on linux blows, especially
their network Printer/Scanner/Copier devices and they blow even more
when you have a fiery rip attached to said devices.</RANT>
