Ubuntu is great for ex-Winblows users, but IMHO Gnome is a fat pig compared
to some other distros.  Of course www.distrowatch.com puts it #1.

I have a an old laptop needing a disk wipe.  I'll bring it along and
install something more to my taste.  Maybe I'll try Gentoo.  Then we can
compare.

BTW, I looked in to the Xgl/Compwiz.  The demos looks pretty cool, bet
it needs a lot of horsepower.  Sadaly it needs the "Composite" extension
to X. "Composite" breaks Twinview and Xinerama and I love dual monitors.
Guess I'll have to wait.
