So, I picked up this comic today called "Morgan".  It's some sort of post-earth-shattering-incident world in Australia.  There is some sort of underground and their prized possession is, get this, an old Pentium MMX 200 laptop running slackware linux 3.1 with a 2.0 kernel...  I shit you not.  They even threw in some anti-microsoft, pro-linux retoric.  For some reason people aren't allowed to own computers now, so this is a big deal.

One kid fires it up and apparently chats with some other "hacker" via talk.  I was a little weirded out.
