Hello! Currently my job has left me little time to sleep, let alone enjoy myself with other unix enthusiasts. I'm going to have to do something about that.

I have managed to find a bit of time to start a couple of projects that I am finding interesting. I don't know if I will ever finish them, but I'm learning a lot by fumbling through them. (How does one make a database with 43 billion records scale well? Well, I may have found an answer to that -- at least for my case.)

You know how when you find a band that is awesome, but nobody has ever heard of them, you really enjoy them that much more, but once they become mainstream and everyone loves them, they aren't as exciting anymore? Well I was worried that was going to happen with Ruby. I read this the other day: http://www.loudthinking.com/arc/000547.html

Why does it bother us when something we love becomes popular? Shouldn't we be happy? Maybe it's that I just don't feel like I'm on the edge any more. I thought about playing with Haskel now... But no. I still love Ruby. It kicks butt. I haven't even used Rails, and I may not. Nitro actually looks a little more interesting... but is that because it isn't as well known? Crap, am I gonna bail if it becomes popular?

sheesh...
